Quinta das lágrimas

In Quinta das Lágrimas (Tears Farm) there are two water springs, both of which are related to the tragic love of Pedro e Inês (Peter and Agnes).

The "Fountain of Love", so named for having witnessed the passion of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro. Access to this fountain, which is found among centuries-old trees, is made through a fourteenth-century Gothic pointed arch.

The other source was named by the portuguese poet Luís de Camões in "Os Lusíadas", as "Fountain of Tears", saying that it was born from the tears shed by Inês when murdered at the behest of D. Afonso IV of Portugal. Inês's blood will have been trapped in the rocks of the bed, still red even after a few centuries ...

A mystical place that you can not miss.
